Tame the Track Tour races in Houlton postponed

Episode 353

Tame the Track Houlton snowmobile race postponed

Tame the Track Tour Snowmobile Races “Heartbeats and Handlebars” at Houlton March 13 is postponed.

I wish I had a more definitive answer to the question about whether an actual race in Houlton in 2021 will take place. The original race date of March 13 is not going to happen.

Race organizers have not totally given up. A race near the original location in Houlton is being looked at and a decision about suitability for racing as well as meeting Covid-19 regulations is being discussed.

Maybe a decision will be announced before next week’s episode.

Tentative race schedule released for South Shore Racing Association (SSOA)

In Episodes 314 May 3, 2020 and Episode 315 May 10, 2020, I had the privilege of telling the story of South Shore Racing (SSOA) and American Power Boat Association (APBA) member and racing champion/builder Larry Castagneto, now living in Littleton, Massachusetts. I have included both episodes below with their links:

Larry Castagneto at the National Championships at Guntersville, Alabama after the races in teardown and inspection phase. Note the shirt. Castagneto first wore the “lucky shirt” in 1956 when he won his first trophy. Only time he did not wear the shirt in the early years was in 1959 at Canobie Lake in New Hampshire when he got run over. Castagneto was unsure when he retired the shirt but did comment, “It made it through a lot of years racing”. (Castagneto Collection photo)

Larry continues in retirement as a member of the SSOA and APBA. Below is the tentative schedule for 2021 outboard racing season. Keep in mind that everything is tentative pending local issues with Covid-19 restrictions. Contact race officials before heading out to the races.

The tentative 2021 South Shore Outboard Association race schedule.

For folks who may be unfamiliar with outboard racing, The South Shore Outboard Association produced this video featuring Larry Castagneto. Enjoy.

I saw the graphic below with Joey Logano on the last lap of the 2021 Daytona 500 and had to find out who made me chuckle with the depiction of the turn three incident that shaped up the win for Michael McDowell.

Brun Rafael, Odivelas, Portugal, is a cartoonist and graphic designer with a love for American motorsports. He sells, stickers, t-shirts, and posters with his creations on https://www.redbubble.com/people/comicsbybruno/shop?asc=u#profile

The cartoon that caught my eye shortly after the last lap incident at this year’s Daytona 500. The artist Bruno Rafael is from Portugal which surprised me that NASCAR’s influence reaches far and wide. (Courtesy of Comics by Bruno)

Favor please

The distribution of UpNorth Motorsports may be greatly enhanced if you do a couple seemingly small tasks. The Bangor Daily News is cutting back on blogs and that means we will not be within their extensive distribution system. I am very grateful that the folks at BDN have continued to allow publishing of UpNorth Motorsports. Here are a couple ways you may help:

  1. At the end of each episode, if you scroll to bottom, a message about subscribing via email is located. Type in your email and when an issue is published you should get an email notification. Subscribing is free of charge.
  2. Feel free to share episodes. I am sometimes surprised where I see UpNorth Motorsports

Let’s go racing,
